Its Volunteers' Week!

Volunteers' Week is an annual national celebration of the contribution millions of people make across the UK through volunteering in their communities. NCYC wouldn't exist without volunteers, so we're joining in with the celebrations to shout out our thanks to the many local people who give their time, energy and passion to making our area such a strong community.

NCYC currently has over 80 active volunteers helping with all sorts of activities. Some people volunteer weekly, helping run activities like the Peer Bereavement Support Group or crochet club, or visiting an older person at home to share a cuppa and a chat. Some people volunteer monthly, helping organise and run Senior Matinees and Neston Flicks. And then there's a list of people who every once in a while, when we need it, will come back year after year to help out on amazing community events like the Big Lunch or the Liverpool to Chester Cycle Ride. Every volunteer is valued for the skills and experience they bring, and we simply couldn't do what we do without them. Plus it's fun to volunteer!

If you're considering volunteering, have a look at the list below. There are loads of ways to get involved.

Neston Angels

Volunteer befrienders are needed to visit an older person for an hour a week, providing companionship in the home, and supporting them to build confidence, independence and their own social network.

Community Garden

Volunteers needed to help with general gardening tasks on Monday and/or Friday afternoons. No experience necessary, our friendly team will give guidance and training, though people with specific skills to share such as horticulture, art, crafts, landscape design, woodwork, and recycling would be very welcome.

Neston Flicks

Community cinema at Neston Civic Hall on the last Saturday of the month. Join the friendly volunteer team with various roles in publicity, projection, front of house, and buddying for older or first-time attenders.

Senior Matinees

Cinema and afternoon tea for older people at NCYC on the third Tuesday of the month. Greeters and servers needed.

Chat 'n' Char

Monthly social occasion with quizzes and cakes for older people to flex their brains and social muscles! Greeters and servers needed.

Full Circle

Weekly social occassion for older people and parents with children under 3. Sharing stories across the generations and making lasting friendships. Volunteers needed to help run the group.

Silvermail

Our penpal project with local school children. Swapping up to 6 letters a year and a yearly social event to meet your penpal. We need older people in our area to become penpals.

Repairs and Maintenance

Join our repairs and maintenance team tackling repair and maintenance jobs at Neston Civic Hall and Neston Community Youth Centre.

Office Administration

Placements in NCYC’s reception to gain experience in customer service, office administration, IT and marketing.
