About the film:

A heartwarming, feelgood film for the festive season at Neston Flicks, Lunana is shot in the breathtaking landscape of the Himalayas. In the first Bhutanese film to be nominated for an Academy Award, a reluctant young teacher is assigned to what's billed as the most remote school on the planet and learns life-changing lessons.

When he is posted to Lunana, a remote village high in the Himalayan mountains, he is disheartened to find a simple yak herding community lacking basic amenities such as electricity or even a blackboard in its school classroom.

But the enthusiasm of his young students, and the unassuming warmth of the village folk buoy his spirits. Will he decide to return to the city before the gruelling winter sets in or remain in this strange and captivating land?

Lunana’s appeal is hard to miss: though rather naive in its messaging and unashamedly sentimental, the film is so pure of spirit and so open-hearted, you want to breathe it in, to fill your lungs with it. - The Guardian

This charming, quietly funny culture-clash film, about a young teacher in Bhutan...is a thoughtful exploration of happiness and community values. - British Film Institute
