We can't quite believe it but Neston Flicks is 10 years old in October!
It was in the summer of 2013 that CAN Group organised a meeting of Neston residents at Neston Town Hall to talk about setting up a community cinema for Neston. On 26th October 2013, the newly formed Neston Flicks team screened its first film at Neston Civic Hall, a Hallowe'en themed ghost story called The Others. Forty nine people came to watch it, and ten years later, Neston Flicks is still screening a monthly film at Neston Civic Hall, with an average audience size that exceeds all other community cinemas in Cheshire.
Over the years, Neston Flicks has tried out various extras to enhance the cinematic experience. We've had food, film quizzes, singalong screenings, dress up extravaganzas, live music, we even had rocks for sale to stone the MC with for Monty Python's Life of Brian.
The Covid pandemic stopped screenings for a time, and while many community cinemas in the region never returned, Flicks has come back stronger than ever, with sellout performances in 2023.
Neston Flicks wouldn't happen without the hard work of its volunteer team, many of whom are the original founders. The fact that Neston Flicks is largely volunteer run is what gives our local cinema its unique flavour.
But a cinema wouldn't be anything without an audience, so we want to take this opportunity to thank all you Neston residents who have supported Neston Flicks over the last ten fantastic years. Here's to another ten and many more!
Death on the Nile is our next film on Saturday 28th October, another outing for Kenneth Branagh's Poirot, with a star studded cast in the classic Agatha Christie whodunnit. Book your tickets online or in person at Neston Community Youth Centre
